our philosophy
Beginning with a foundation of high-quality, whole ingredients, 99% of our product is made in house from scratch. Everything from our signature brioche and cake doughs to our fresh fruit glazes, custards, streusels, edible cookie dough, pie crust crumbles, marshmallow fluff- you get the idea!
We stay away from commercial dough mixes laden with fake preservatives and artificial shortcuts for our glazes, toppings and fillings, because we wholeheartedly believe that you deserve to experience a better donut!
Our rotating menu is designed with intention to highlight the best flavors of the season, and we love to partner with local farmers and artisans as often as possible.
The same passion for elevating our product through high quality ingredients and shining a spotlight on our local talent extends to our new breakfast menu and beer + wine list.
And because you can’t have great donuts without amazing coffee, we offer a robust, thoughtfully crafted coffee program. Our beans are locally roasted right here in Santa Barbara by Coastal Coffee Collective.
our story
Our debut location launched in late 2018 inside of a shared pop-up retail space in downtown Santa Barbara. Baking out of a shared offsite kitchen in the wee hours of the night, our steadfast commitment to hand crafted donuts and seasonally inspired flavors made our product immediately stand out from the crowd. With long lines, early sellouts and a loyal following since our opening day, Hook & Press quickly established itself as the most innovative donut shop on the Central Coast.
Hook & Press was voted Best Donut Shop in Santa Barbara in Santa Barbara Independent’s Annual Readers’ Poll in 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023, and was named in both USA Today and Food Network on their lists of Best Restaurants in Santa Barbara.
We inevitably outgrew the shared space model that initially offered us the opportunity to start our business. In 2022, our newly revovated flagship location opened at 15 East Figueroa Street, less than a block away from where it all began. Having full access to our own kitchen and restaurant space means we’re now able to increase our production and hours of operation, as well as expand on our offerings! We can’t wait for your to try our breakfast menu and pair a glass of Central Coast wine or local beer to pair with your favorite donuts!
